Alexandra (Lexie) Gross

Alexandra grew up in Wellesley, MA. Her mother is a native of Germany and her father is German-American. She grew up with both the German language and culture and traveled extensively in Europe during her childhood. From 1989-93, she pursued her undergraduate degree at Mount Holyoke College (BA 1993) with a double major in History and German Studies, an interdisciplinary study within the Politics, Music and Philosophy departments. Her junior year (1991-92) was spent as a fully matriculated student at the University of Hamburg, where she honed her academic interests and used the new freedoms to travel extensively throughout the now former East Germany. After graduation, she returned to Berlin for seven years, where she worked as a journalist for National Public Radio, a free-lance translator and marketing consultant to various international firms. In December 2001, she completed Emerson’s MA program in Political Communications, where she was the graduate assistant to Dr. Gregory Payne, and continues to be active in the Center for Ethic and Political Communication at Emerson.

After receiving her MA from Emerson, she worked as Press Secretary and Deputy Campaign Manager for the Committee to Elect Lois Pines for Lt. Governor, a race fought hard but lost nonetheless. Currently, Lexie’s working on various projects including translations, coordinating the US-side of the Saudi American Exchange and consulting Harvard University at the department of Physics on an oral history project about the life experiences of German and Austrian émigrés who escaped Nazi Germany to the US.

In March 2002, she participated in the 1st Saudi American Exchange program, an incredible journey to the desert land. Since returning from Saudi Arabia, she’s participated on various panels and publications promoting the project. The first time she visited Saudi Arabia, she experienced a wealth of culture, a breath-taking landscape, and an incredible sense of welcome from her hosts. As a scholar of propaganda, she’s acutely aware the media greatly influences current US public opinion regarding Arab-American relations. She hopes to wage peace and understanding instead of war and ignorance – even if only on the personal level.
